Sensex closes 93 points up


A benchmark index of the Indian equities market closed 93 points higher Friday. The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,412.76 points closed at 20,482.46 points (provisional), up 93.39 points or 0.46 percent, from its previous close of 20,389.07 points. At the National Stock Exchange 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended 0.42 percent higher at 6,127 points.
Discovery shuttle launch delayed until Friday


The final launch of the space shuttle Discovery has been delayed once again, this time to Friday because of poor weather at the Kennedy Space Centre on Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch had been scheduled for Thursday, but will now not take place until 3.04 p.m. (1904 GMT) Friday, the US space agency NASA said.

Choppy trading continues in Indian stock markets


Indian equities opened slightly higher Friday but soon entered a session of choppy trading on the first day of the new series of futures and options, pulling down a key index. The benchmark sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) began the day at 19,986.32 points, as against the previous close at 19,941.04, with a gain of 45.28 points, or 0.23 percent. Even though it briefly scaled the 20,000-point mark at 20,005.50 points, it soon fell to 19,903.75 points to log a loss of -37.29 points, or 0.19 percent
