Imports of sensitive items grew 14.1 percent

The total imports of sensitive items during April-October 2010 grew by 14.1 percent, and stood at Rs.40,499 crore as compared to Rs.35,487 crore during the corresponding period of last year, the commerce ministry said Monday. According to an official statement, the surge in imports of sensitive items was led by edible oils, automobiles, rubber, milk products, marble, granite, alcoholic beverages and food grains. “In the edible oils segment, the import has increased from Rs.14,205 crore last year to Rs.15,882 crore for the corresponding period of this year,” the statement said.

Onion, milk prices keep India’s annual food inflation high

After falling to a four-month low, India’s annual food inflation rose again to 8.69 percent for the week ended Nov 27, as prices of onions, milk, fruits, meat and poultry continued to rule high, commerce ministry data showed Thursday.
